On the 10th of May, the Euopean Quidditch Federation announced the cancellation of European Quidditch Cup (EQC) in 2020. Division 2 of EQC, in which two Dutch teams were to participate, would originally take place on April 28 and 29 and was moved to September this year due to the outbreak of the corona virus CoVid-19. It has now been announced that the tournament cannot take place in September due to the same virus. The tournament will be moved to 2021 in its entirety.
The allocation of the number of teams allowed to participate remains the same. Quidditch Nederland therefore retains its two participation spots. European Quidditch Federation allows each NGB to decide whether the current qualifications for the tournament remain valid. The board of Quidditch Nederland has decided that the current qualifications expire. The board believes that QNL should be represented by the best Dutch teams. Every year major changes can take place within teams, therefore the board chooses to re-select the two best teams.
Twentse Thestrals and Rotterdam Ravens had qualified for EQC D2 2020. The qualifications will be canceled and the teams will have to try to qualify for the tournament again.
There are no details available about the new Dutch qualifying tournament yet.
